The Baroque Era
Rameau was a part of the Baroque era. The Baroque era was between the time of 1600 and 1750. Rameau was one of many Major Baroque composers including Jean-Baptiste Lully and Marc-Antoine Charpentier. The Word Baroque come from the Portuguese word Barroco which means "oddly shaped pearl". The characteristics to Baroque music are Dramatic Contrast, monody, and basso continuo. Dramatic contrast for example is going from really quiet to really loud or from playing slow to playing fast, it can also be shown when playing a solo or playing as a whole orchestra. Monody is a single voice so almost like solos in the orchestration. Basso continuo just means continuous bass which is the part played by the key board instrument such as the Harpsichord or other bass instruments such as the cello.
